All clients entering Breakthrough Recovery Outreach undergo an initial assessment
of their substance use and co-occurring mental illness history by a licensed staff
member. The results of this evaluation lead to a recommendation for the types of
services that are best suited for the client. In other words, based on the assessment,
the type and length of program recommended is based on several factors: addiction
history (type of substances used, length of substance use and quantity of substances
used), presence of co-occurring mental illness, and other needs of the client. BRO
offers the following types of programs:
90 Day Program
For those looking for a long-term, residential recovery program, Breakthrough Recovery
Outreach provides an initial 90 Day Program for both males and females. This type
of client is in need of a 24/7, highly structured, residential environment to remove
them from the opportunity to acquire alcohol or substances while keeping them safe,
comfortable and focused. The 90 Day Program provides around the clock supervision
by BRO staff while the client engages in therapeutic programming, wholistic activities
and community based 12-Step meetings. The clients are transported, based on gender,
to Breakthrough’s office for the day programming, to off-site facilities for some
of the wholistic programming (i.e., yoga studio, kickboxing and exercise gym), to
various 12-Step meetings within the metro-Atlanta community and to church. Our 90
Day Program consists of
Recovery
Phases that the client transitions through as he or she becomes stronger
in their recovery. The three (3) phases are Red Phase, Yellow
Phase and finally, Green Phase. Initially, the Red Phase is a period of “settling
in” to the Recovery Residence Program, becoming oriented to the rules and expectations
of the program, and becoming acquainted with fellow community members. Then, it
is time to address the addiction and begin to acquire skills, tools, and network
and support systems necessary for recovery, along with addressing any co-existing
diagnoses that need professional attention. The Yellow Phase is a period of continued
growth in both recovery and personal growth. Sobriety remains paramount in the client’s
daily life and more attention is being paid to creating a balance within the emotional,
spiritual, mental and physical self. Recovery is being strengthened by being actively
involved in the 12 Step program and increased self-confidence and self-worth continue
to be primary targets as a result of dealing with one’s emotional, spiritual, physical
and mental health. It is time to transition into more activities outside of Breakthrough
with employment, school work or volunteerism while still having a safe and sober
living environment. The Green Phase is a growth period for integrating new sober
living skills into daily life activities by using sponsors, family, friends and
therapists. Personal independence is growing as recovery is practiced in real life
activities while still having a safe, home base that provides familiarity, support
and community. Although still in the infancy stage in recovery, the Green Phase
allows continued recovery and personal growth. It helps to ensure further progress
towards implementing the wholistic recovery model of Breakthrough by becoming a
balanced individual who has addressed their emotional, spiritual, mental and physical
needs.

28 Day Program
For those clients requiring a shorter version of our residential program, Breakthrough
Recovery Outreach provides a highly intense and highly structured 28 Day Program
that is patterned after the 90 Day Program in terms of our wholistic approach in
the treatment of mental illness and alcohol and substance abuse. The same wholistic,
evidence-based medical and psychological modalities are utilized along with our
traditional 12-Step approach to recovery. Typically, the 28 Day Program works well
for someone who has been sober but had a brief relapse and needs to get refocused
and recommitted to the personal goal of recovery.

Adolescent Program
Adolescents di¬ffer developmentally from adults and have unique challenges, such
as relating to their families, dealing with peer groups and peer pressure, and getting
an education. Adolescent BRO addresses not only substance use and mental health
concerns but also behavioral issues and many other aspects of a teen's life. We
recognize that drug and alcohol abuse hurts more than the teens that use them, and
are therefore dedicated to helping the entire family work through the network of
problems caused by the teen’s substance use or dependency, as well as the underlying
mental health and social issues behind it. We motivate our residents to challenge
themselves to recover and take control of their lives. We provide a safe, caring,
and supportive environment for your child to heal. For those looking for a long-term,
residential recovery program, Breakthrough Recovery Outreach provides an initial
90 Day Program for both male and female teenagers. The adolescent is in need of
a 24/7, highly structured, residential environment to remove them from the opportunity
to acquire alcohol or substances while keeping them safe, comfortable and focused.
The Adolescent 90 Day Program provides around the clock supervision by BRO staff
while the teen engages in therapeutic programming, wholistic activities and community
based 12-Step meetings. All residents will have a minimum of three hours of individualized
schooling on weekdays through Faith Academy and a personalized education plan to
maintain the teen’s current study curriculum. The teens are transported, based on
gender, to Breakthrough’s office for the day programming, to off-site facilities
for some of the wholistic programming (i.e., yoga studio, kickboxing and exercise
gym), to various 12-Step meetings in the evenings within the metro-Atlanta community
and to church on Sundays.
BRO’s Outpatient and Continuing Care Plan for adolescents is a plan developed by
their Counselor with input from the adolescent, parent or guardian, and the Treatment
Team prior to the teen leaving the program. It addresses, as appropriate:
- Continuing care needs may include: individual and
family therapy, medication management and/or outpatient programs
- 12-Step meeting schedule
- Family relationships
- Academic needs
- Social needs and accessibility to community resources
- Indication of anticipated problems following discharge
and suggested measures to take
Teens are encouraged to remain in the Continuing Care phase of the outpatient program
for a minimum of one year. During this phase of treatment, teens attend a weekly
peer facilitated support group, have access to BRO staff for support and guidance,
and are encouraged to continue involvement in young person's 12-Step programs in
the community. Parents also remain involved in the weekly Parent Support Group.
As adolescence can be an especially difficult time for teens with peer pressure
to use drugs and alcohol, teens are encouraged to utilize their sober peer network
for support and to remain connected with the staff and program as much as possible.
